What is an API key and where do I find it?

An API key is a long string of letters and numbers — think of it like a read-only password — that lets one piece of software look at another. In our case, an OpenAI key lets Spend360 see how much your team spent on ChatGPT this month, without being able to send messages, change settings, or charge anything. You generate keys inside each AI provider's account. For OpenAI you sign in at platform.openai.com, open the API keys page in the left menu, click 'Create new secret key', copy the value, and paste it into the matching provider card inside Spend360. The provider has a 'where do I find this?' help link next to every key field, so you don't have to remember the steps.

Do I need to be technical to use Spend360?

No. If you can copy a value from one website and paste it into another, you can run Spend360. The whole product — connecting providers, setting budgets, inviting your team, reading the dashboard — is designed for finance leads, founders and operations managers. There is no code to write and nothing to install. When something is unclear, the page itself walks you through it.

Which AI providers are supported?

Spend360 supports the providers that drive the vast majority of company AI spend today: OpenAI (ChatGPT, GPT-4, GPT-5 and the API behind them), Anthropic (Claude), Google (Gemini), Cohere, and Azure OpenAI. We add new providers based on what customers ask for — if your team relies on something we don't yet cover, let us know and we'll prioritise it.

How does the 14 day free trial work?

Every account starts on a 14 day free trial of the paid features — no credit card required. During the trial you can connect providers, set budgets, invite teammates, and use alerts exactly as a paying customer would. At the end of the 14 days you add a payment method to stay on the Team plan ($199/month). If you do nothing, your account simply pauses; we don't bill anyone who hasn't chosen a plan.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There are no annual contracts. You can cancel from the Settings page in one click and you won't be billed again. You keep access until the end of the billing period you've already paid for, and your data stays available for export should you ever want it back.

Is my API key safe?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Keys are encrypted before they're stored, never shown back in full inside the dashboard, and only ever used to read usage and cost data — never to send messages or change anything on the provider's side. Only the people you invite to your Spend360 workspace can see that a key exists, and only you can rotate or delete it. If you ever want to remove a key, deleting it inside Spend360 cuts off our access immediately.
